The primary clinical services that Dr. Meuser provides are summarized below (scroll down) along with applicable fees. His practice is primarily oriented to assessment (including neuropsychological testing) and consultation in support of daily living, diagnostic decisions, care planning, transitions, and life decisions. See the "Questions" page to learn about common concerns he may address.
PROCESS. Prospective clients start by completing an INTEREST FORM, participate in a brief phone or zoom consultation with Dr. Meuser (i.e., to review issues and what may be needed; at no charge), complete various forms through his secure electronic health record portal, and then participate in an in-person session in the client's home or another private location. All of this can usually happen in a matter of 2-5 weeks from the initial request.
MILEAGE. Dr. Meuser charges the federal mileage rate ($0.725) for travel >30 miles from Portland. For example, total round trip mileage from Portland to Bar Harbor is 300 miles. A client who lives in Bar Harbor would be be billed 300 - 60 = 240 x 0.725 = $174.
THERAPY. Dr. Meuser does NOT provide psychotherapy services, but he may work with a given client over more than one session when needed. Additional sessions are negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Dr. Meuser knows many excellent providers in various medical and health fields in Maine, and he works with his clients to ensure their referral needs are addressed.
BILLING. Dr. Meuser provides clinical and consultative services on a fee-for-service, private pay basis. He works outside the insurance system, in other words, and does not bill Medicare. Payment for service is due by Venmo, PayPal, or personal check when the written report or other agreed-upon deliverable is sent. YOU CAN SUBMIT TO INSURANCE. When requested, Dr. Meuser provides a "Super Bill" with appropriate CPT codes to allow a given client to submit for reimbursement consideration from a private insurer. There is no guarantee that such reimbursement is provided, however, as every insurer is different and makes their own decisions.
You may feel fine or have a specific concern. Perhaps there's a family history (e.g., of dementia) or a recent health event (e.g., stroke). A detailed neurobehavioral screening evaluation is helpful for identifying problems early and establishing a baseline for future comparison. If a concern is identified, the results will inform you and your care team about reasonable next steps.

You likely have meaningful concerns and already discussed these with a physician or other professional. Something is clearly not right, but exactly what is going on and the extent deficits are unclear.
A full neuropsychological evaluation (geriatric type) targets all domains of memory and thinking with multiple tests to create a detailed functional picture. Deficit patterns support immediate diagnostic and care decisions.
